Diversity Working Group

The Diversity Working Group has been established to ensure that congregational life at Toronto First reflects our city’s broad diversity and that inclusion is an intentional and active part of our collective ministry.

Objectives

  1. Continue and extend the congregational conversation about diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusivity to include as many perspectives as possible, and to educate and sensitize members about diversity/inclusivity.
  2. To collect information and reports about diversity/inclusivity initiatives conducted by other organizations and congregations that will inform and aid our efforts.
  3. To take immediate actions that will make First Unitarian more welcoming, when there is general agreement about those actions.
  4. To prepare a report or reports that will recommend specific actions that encourage and support diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusivity in all aspects of our congregational life.

Membership

In accordance with the goal of intentional inclusion, the working group’s composition will strive to maintain a diversity of ethnic, racial, age, gender identity and sexual orientation perspectives.

Reporting

The Diversity Working Group, for reporting and budgeting purposes, is a project of Member Services. Reports and meeting notes will be regularly added here and brief reports included in monthly issues of Horizons.
