Letter signing on Sunday, January 22 during coffee hour focuses on the protection of peasant farmers and other human rights defenders in Colombia.

We will also prepare valentines asking PM Trudeau to Have a Heart for First Nations children and provide services all other Canadians enjoy.

Everyone has the right to clean, drinkable water and adequate sanitation. During coffee hour we will sign letters to the Minister of Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development requesting immediate measures to address the needs of First Nations communities.

All members and friends of First are invited to come together for a conversation about the place of social justice in our life as a congregation, especially in a changing world. What are we called to do? What are we called to do together? These and other questions will guide our time of discernment.

For our letter signing on Sunday during coffee hour we will write to Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Indigenous Affairs and Northern Development to urge the federal government to close the gap in supports for Indigenous women and girls escaping violence and to do so without delay.

During coffee hour we will urge Canada to rescind the Safe Third Country Agreement with the U.S. as access to asylum in the U.S. is seriously threatened due to a disregard for the rights of refugees.

We will also have tickets for the 27th Annual Amnesty Auction on May 17.

Eco-Social Justice Film

The film REVOLUTION: Save the Humans is by the late Rob Stewart, whose life tragically came to an end while filming his latest documentary ‘Shark Extinction’ .

Donations will be gratefully accepted for Rob’s favourite foundation, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a pizza party and friendly conversation.

Indigenous Art

In the Narthex, Rev. Shawn Newton will lead a dedication of two created paintings hung along the steps for the congregation, created by the indigenous artist Leland Bell.
