Congregational Meeting

The agenda will include the following:

  • A vote on a proposal from the Board:

On May 8, the Board passed the following motion, which will be voted on by the congregation at a meeting on Sept. 29: "The Board recommends to the congregation that $200,000 be removed from the Endowment Fund in accordance with the auditor’s recommendation, and that the congregation consider this before a vote at a special meeting before the year end."

In the fall of 2012, the congregation’s auditor recommended re-evaluation of existing funds at First, to ensure donations/bequests were not restricted beyond the terms specified by donors. Subsequently, the Funds Management Committee provided a report to the Board in the spring of 2013, in which a bequest made in 2008 was identified as potentially available for use in ways other than being in the Endowment Fund.

  • A report from the Building For The Future task force, for updates on our space requirements (including some preliminary plans), the real estate market, and the possibility of partnerships. We will also discuss the decision-making process leading up to the vote in January.

A light lunch will be available (at cost) and childcare will be available.

Building for the Future Congregational Retreat

The Building for the Future Task Force invites you to come to this meeting to explore in depth our options for the future: to rebuild on our present site or to sell and build a new building elsewhere. We will talk about:

  • Our vision for ourselves as a congregation.
  • Congregational size and why it matters.
  • The latest thinking of the Building for the Future Task Force, including an interim financial report.

The retreat is free but we ask you to register after service on November 17 or 24.

A vegetarian lunch will be provided at cost. Child-care is available on request.

Please plan to come. If you can’t stay all day, come for part of the day.

Until next Spring, and an expected congregational vote in April, we will be studying those options.

When you’re at church, check out the diagram in the stairwell to see where we have been and where we are going in our process to discern the right choice.

There's more information on the Building for the Future page on our website.
