Edafe Okporo: BED 26

Date: Friday, October 26, 2018 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Canadian Unitarian Council presents Edafe Okporo, a compelling storyteller, writer, and human rights activist. A Nigerian refugee who now lives in New York. Okporo’s book, BED 26: A Memoir of an African Man’s Asylum in United States, narrates the experiences of Nigerian and West African gay, bisexual men and the reason they are forced to flee from their home country. It is based on a true-life story, and also explores the experiences of immigrants in an immigration detention centre, and the gap between the perceived American dream and its reality of racism, discrimination and phobia for people of color in America.

The event will take place at 192 Spadina Avenue.
