“Turn the World Around” (Sun. 21 Oct, 2012 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

United Nations Sunday with sermon by Rev. Shawn Newton

Sanctuary Steering Committee (Sun. 21 Oct, 2012 12:15 pm - 2:15 pm)

Offering Sanctuary

Everyone interested is invited to attend the inaugural meeting of the group planning for providing refugee sanctuary to “an individual who meets the criteria of the UN Convention on Refugees” and who has exhausted all other means to have their case heard.

We have installed a shower, but beyond that we have not made further preparations. We must decide on a space for the refugee, obtain furniture, consider the needs of a person in sanctuary and have a system of volunteers in place to meet those needs such as shopping, laundry, friendly visiting, etc. We also need a fundraising plan to cover costs.

Cakes for the Queen Of Heaven (Wed. 24 Oct, 2012 6:45 pm - 10:30 pm)

Cakes for the Queen of Heaven: In Ancient Times - Part I

Wednesdays – Oct 10, Oct 17, Oct 24, Nov 7, Nov 14, Nov 21, 2012 - 6:45–9:30 pm.

Cakes for the Queen of Heaven is a woman-honouring course that’s not just about history and archaeology; it’s also about women’s issues in a patriarchal society, and women’s spiritual heritage. “Cakes” was developed as part of the Unitarian Universalist (UU) adult religious education program. Come and participate in this joyful and educational workshop series where you will be invited to share your own experiences and beliefs. Together we’ll create sacred space and work to change our stories.

By popular request, this year we welcome men, as well as women. There is much that we, not just as men but as whole evolving people, can re-examine, re-learn and realize through the Cakes for the Queen of Heaven program. How might our perspectives on life, history and the divine be enriched by exploring these teachings? Imagine how life would have been different for our fathers and grandfathers if they had known the ways of the mothers and grandmothers.

Fee: $30. Sliding scale. Nobody will miss this due to financial barriers. We encourage those who are able to donate a little more.

Facilitators: Ryan Cvirik & Debbie Kirkland
