“The Spiritual Implications of Stuff” (Sun. 27 Jan, 2013 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

Sermon by Rev. Shawn Newton.

The comedian George Carlin famously (and hilariously) spoke of how much of our life's energy is spent finding a place to put our "stuff." He says the meaning of life itself is trying to find a place to store our stuff. A home, he says, is pretty much a pile of our stuff with a cover on it. (If you don't know his routine, it's well worth searching for "stuff" and "George Carlin" on YouTube.)

Carlin is on to something. Our relationship to things — literally the stuff in our lives — is complicated. Stuff can be a source of meaning and memory, but it can also be a burden and a distraction. On Sunday, we'll give thought to the deeper meaning of the stuff in our lives.

In faith,
Shawn

Cakes for the Queen of Heaven (Wed. 30 Jan, 2013 6:45 pm - 9:30 pm)

Part II - ON THE THRESHOLD

Cakes for the Queen of Heaven is a woman-honouring course that's not just about history and archaeology; it's also about women's issues in a patriarchal society, about women's spiritual heritage.  How might our perspectives on life, history and the divine be enriched by exploring these teachings?  Imagine how life would have been different for all of us if our fathers and grandfathers had known the ways of the mothers and grandmothers. You are invited to share your own experiences and beliefs.

Together we'll create sacred space and work to change our stories.  It matters what we know - it matters what we believe.

All genders are welcome, and you do not need to have participated in Part 1 to join us for Part 2.

Facilitators: Debbie Kirkland & Ryan Cvirik (and participants are involved in presenting each session).
Sponsored by Womynspirit

Suggested donation: $30. Sliding scale, so everyone is able to participate.
