“A People So Bold” (Sun. 10 Feb, 2013 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

Sermon by Rev. Shawn Newton.

I had hoped to welcome the Rev. Fulgence Ndagijimana, a visiting Unitarian minister from Burundi, to our pulpit this coming Sunday. Unfortunately, difficulty in securing the required travel visas will keep him at home. Still, I hope we will be able to share in Fulgence's passion for Unitarian Universalism at a date in the not-too-distant future.

In lieu of our previous plans, I'll be speaking about our calling — and how we live it out, individually and together. Frederick Buechner says that our calling is where our deep joy meets the world's deepest need. In preparation for Sunday, I hope you'll give thought to where that intersection sits in your life.

See you on Sunday.

In faith,
Shawn

Cakes for the Queen of Heaven (Wed. 13 Feb, 2013 6:45 pm - 9:30 pm)

Part II - ON THE THRESHOLD

Cakes for the Queen of Heaven is a woman-honouring course that's not just about history and archaeology; it's also about women's issues in a patriarchal society, about women's spiritual heritage.  How might our perspectives on life, history and the divine be enriched by exploring these teachings?  Imagine how life would have been different for all of us if our fathers and grandfathers had known the ways of the mothers and grandmothers. You are invited to share your own experiences and beliefs.

Together we'll create sacred space and work to change our stories.  It matters what we know - it matters what we believe.

All genders are welcome, and you do not need to have participated in Part 1 to join us for Part 2.

Facilitators: Debbie Kirkland & Ryan Cvirik (and participants are involved in presenting each session).
Sponsored by Womynspirit

Suggested donation: $30. Sliding scale, so everyone is able to participate.
