“BYID: Bring Your Identity” (Sun. 3 Mar, 2013 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

Sermon by Rodrigo Solano-Quesnel, Intern Minister.

Some shows begin with a warning: scenes of violence, sexuality, coarse language, and mature themes... and these are often the matters that are involved when dealing with identity and diversity.

Badges, labels, and tags have a strange role in society. They can be used as instruments of oppression, aggression, and shame. But they can also be means of recognition, distinction, and pride,

Above all these, they can be tools for enhanced awareness.

To that end, the identities we take on--or are sometimes given to us--can benefit from a second look. Words like female, trans, straight, poor, white--words of gender, sexuality, class, or race--are the kind of markers that can constrain... or empower. And a bit of homework on them can shift the balance on our relationship with these identities--and with each other.

Youth Chaplain Training (Fri. 8 Mar, 2013 9:00 am - Sun. 10 Mar, 2013 9:00 am)

Chaplain training is a great training to go to, because it is about listening and learning to guide people to their own answers, rather than telling them what you think they should do. If you've got a youth (or you are) who is one of those people others are always turning to for support or to tell their problems to - you should encourage them to go. Chaplains help keep youth community and Con culture caring, compassionate and spiritually and emotionally healthy - it is a fantastic skills set to gain and will benefit your youth group too!

Click here for information and the online registration form for this 3-day course.

Early Bird registration is $50 and ends February 17! After that registration fees go up to $65 and are due NO LATER than February 28!

The movies can be viewed free of charge, but there will be a charge for refreshments (popcorn and other junk food - bring your own soft drinks) of $5 per person – or pay what you can.

Understanding Life Transitions (Sat. 9 Mar, 2013 10:00 am - 1:00 pm)

Whether it is chosen or thrust upon us, change brings both opportunities and uncertainty.

In this series, which begins with a mini-retreat, we’ll create a roadmap of the transition process.

Through readings, reflections and shared experiences we’ll examine the three stages of any transition: The Ending, The Neutral Zone and, in time, The New Beginning.

Whether you see a transition on the horizon, are in the midst of transition, or simply wish to gain a better understanding of the process, this is a chance to do some confidential, guided work with facilitators Doug Buck and Angela Klassen.
