Passionate Kisses (Sun. 9 Feb, 2014 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

Sermon by Lynn Harrison, Intern Minister.

Love is in the air. Around Valentine's Day, many peoplefind themselves thinking of romance. We're exploring the theme of passion throughout the month of February, and this week's topic is "passion as desire."

It may be that desire is literally at the heart of our lives! After all, passionate desire isn't limited to romantic relationships; it's fuel for many of life's pursuits. Passion can be delightfully energizing, but it can create challenges too. It can be difficult to balance our desires with our realities, our passion with our reason.

My sermon this week takes its title from the Lucinda Williams song of the same name, which artistically asks, "shouldn't I have it all?" It's a fascinating question, waiting to captivate our hearts this Sunday. Hope to see you then.

Blessings,
Lynn Harrison
Intern Minister

The Tar Sands Dragon Opera (Sun. 9 Feb, 2014 12:15 pm - 1:00 pm)

Birdbone Theatre is bringing its Line 9 Puppet Theatre Tour to First.

The Green Team invites adults (and kids too!) to attend the charming and powerful "Tar Sands Dragon Opera" shadow and marionette puppet show. The shows creators, Alison and Aleksandra are touring communities along Line 9 (Sarnia, ON to Sherbrooke, PQ) to raise awareness about an Enbridge pipeline which runs through Toronto, just north of Finch Avenue.

A fairytale of sorts, the show features the cardboard clownery of a bewildered puppet population and the operatics of the inky-black shadows that lurk wherever There Be Dragons. Accordion playing, and song and dance will lighten the necessarily inky mood.

Admission is by donation. Bring a bag lunch if you wish.

In Shaw Hall.
