Survival of the Fittest? (Sun. 15 Feb, 2015 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

Sermon by Rev. Shawn Newton.

This Sunday, as we continue with this month’s theme of evolution, we take up the question of what evolution has meant—and what it means going forward—for our congregation. Karen Dunk-Green, the chair of our Future Focus Program, will be joining me in the pulpit this week to explore how we’ve changed as a congregation and to ponder how we might continue to evolve in order to remain relevant in a rapidly changing world.

The service will include two of my all-time favourite texts. The choir will sing Betsy Jo Angebranndt’s setting of Robert Weston’s “Out of the Stars”, and our reading for the day will be Philip Larkin’s “Church Going”.

In faith and love,
Shawn

Becoming Women of Wisdom is a program in 13 circles running Wednesday nights from February 4 to April 29 designed to enable groups of women to explore and deepen their experience of themselves as wise older women and claim their power. The curriculum includes poetry, story, art, music, song and dance to help women connect to the profound meaning of this life passage. It concludes with a joyous ceremony as participants celebrate their new status and name themselves queen, crone, elder, or grandmother.

This program is designed for women who are perimenopausal, are entering or have passed through menopause. Women of all cultural backgrounds, faiths and levels of knowledge/experience are warmly welcomed. Those who have already been croned may still enjoy this program and it would be great to have you join us.

Cost: $40 or pay-what-you-can (for course materials)
