Belonging: Being Part of Something Larger (Sun. 29 Sep, 2019 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

Belonging: “Being Part of Something Bigger”

Bruce Schwartzentruber, a much-beloved member of our congregation who died suddenly almost five years ago, had as the signature line of his emails the following popular proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” As we continue our series on the theme of Belonging, we turn to the question of what it means to intentionally be a part of something larger than ourselves—be it a community, a movement, or simply an understanding of our place in the great web that is life itself. Going together is rarely the quickest course, and yet it is the one that promises to take us farther than we could ever go on our own.

This Sunday, we’ll also celebrate the Central America Project, with reflections by Dominic and Alix Stones about their work earlier this year in Honduras. Contributions to this ongoing effort to build schools in Central America will be welcomed during a special offering. Our musical team will sing Sydney Guillaume’s “Touched in Love” and Greg Jasperese’s “Oh How Beautiful this Finely Woven Earth.”

Two announcements:

We will be hosting an intergenerational Town Hall on Sunday, October 6th, to reflect on the place of social justice efforts in and beyond our congregation. I hope you’ll be there, if you have passion to bring to this conversation. You can find more information below.

And, if you haven’t already signed up for your Journey Group this year, please do so as soon as possible. You can register here.

See you on Sunday.

In faith and love,

Shawn

Womynspirit Workshop (Wed. 2 Oct, 2019 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

Womynspirit invites womyn to a workshop By The Light Of The Moon: Lunar Magic Woven Into Everyday Life in the First Unitarian library.

Join Joanne McDonough, a GTA astrologer and kitchen witch in a waxing moon dance at a special workshop offered by Womynspirit in collaboration with Witchfest North.

The Moon’s light is part of our DNA, observed for millennia and woven into time, space, myth, archetype and worship. Learn the basic astronomy behind lunar phases, the importance of lunar astrology at birth and through the life cycle, while exploring ways to integrate lunar wisdom into your daily routine. Take part in ritual honoring the waxing, full and waning moon through the guidance of the Triple Goddess.

Space is limited, maximum 15 people. Pre-registration via email is required.
Payment: $25 suggested donation, cash on the day.
