Enough Is Enough (Sun. 10 Nov, 2019 10:30 am - 11:30 am)

Sermon by Rev. Lynn Harrison

Last week in our Enough series, we reflected on how the “stuff” of our lives can overwhelm us, making it difficult to identify our true priorities and live by them.

This Sunday, we’ll think more about the challenge of saying “Enough is enough!” to what we no longer need or want. This can include actions, attitudes and patterns of behavior, as much as material goods.

As we look toward Remembrance Day on November 11th, we may want to say “Enough!” to acts of injustice and aggression, or to difficult emotions within our own hearts. Our Unitarian principles can be helpful to us at times like these—as can poetry, story and music, all of which will be abundant on Sunday.

In the lifelong journey of spiritual growth, we’re always renewing our understanding of what is truly needed—what is enough. I welcome your presence on Sunday, as we explore this crucial question.

See you on Sunday,
Rev. Lynn

TransformTO (Sun. 10 Nov, 2019 12:45 pm - 2:15 pm)

The TransformTO plan includes short and long-term actions to meet the City’s greenhouse gas [GHG] reduction targets of 65 per cent by 2030, and 80 per cent by 2050. Meeting these targets will require big changes in how we live, work, build, travel, and more.

In Toronto, our homes and buildings, vehicles, and waste are the largest sources of GHG emissions. Reducing these emissions will require participation from all of Toronto’s communities and residents.

Join the Green Team for a conversation about how members and friends of First can help shape Toronto’s climate action strategy. Bring a vegetarian dish (and your own plate/cutlery) to share; children welcome!

Spiritual Care Salon (Wed. 13 Nov, 2019 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm)

What can you do when someone stops coming to Service?

At our second Spiritual Care Salon in Workman Hall we will reflect on how we can respond when we’re missing a familiar face. People can and do step away from their congregations without causing worry. But sometimes an absence feels surprising, leaves us with uncertainty and questions. What can we do if we notice someone is missing?

Join us at 6:00 PM for a vegetarian dinner, followed by conversation with Rev. Lynn, Jeanne, Allan and the Pastoral Care Team. We will talk about what it means to be part of this Sunday morning community, and how we relate to others in the congregation. All are welcome!
